ANMF (SA Branch) launches new petition for RESPECT

May 2026

The ANMF (SA Branch) has launched a new petition as part of its campaign to secure respect for nurses and midwives employed in the state's public health sector.

Despite more than a year of bargaining, and despite intensive discussions and advocacy since the State Election, the South Australian Government has still failed to provide a nationally competitive wages and conditions offer that properly values and respects public sector nurses and midwives.

At a time of rising demand, workforce shortages, and fierce interstate competition for skilled health professionals, South Australia cannot afford to fall behind.

ANMF SA CEO/Secretary Adj Assoc Professor Elizabeth Dabars AM said respect for nurses and midwives must be reflected in action.

“We are seeking an offer that helps retain experienced staff, attract the next generation into the profession, and recognise the critical role nurses and midwives play in our health system,” Ms Dabars said.

"With new Health Minister Blair Boyer and Public Sector Minister Tom Koutsantonis appointed following the March election, it is now time to send a clear and renewed message to government."

"Nurses and midwives are patient, but they cannot wait any longer.

"This petition sends a clear message to elected officials about where the community stands on the future of our public health system and the people who keep it running.”
