What is a Diploma of Nursing?

A Diploma of Nursing is your pathway to a career as an Enrolled Nurse (EN) in Australia. ENs work under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and are responsible for a range of care to support the health needs of patients. This could include medication administration, frontline health assessments, wound care and responding to emergency situations.

With a Diploma of Nursing, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge required to confidently provide person-centred care in a wide range of professional health care settings.

Industry placements are a required element of the Diploma of Nursing and your first opportunity to gain experience in health and care settings. ANMEC provides all placements in settings such as private and public hospitals, community settings and aged care.

Program Units

To undertake this qualification, students must complete 25 units of study, including 20 core units and 5 electives

Fees

The Diploma of Nursing is subsidised by the Government of South Australia and is available at the subsidised rate of $11,950 for eligible students.
Concession is available for subsidised students who hold a current concession card at the rate of $9,600.

For students that aren't eligible for government subsidies, the full-fee cost of this course is $24,320

The above fees include:

  • 1 x polo shirt and 1 x scrub
  • Mask fit testing
  • Access to online resources through Clinical Key

VET Student Loans (VSL)

Eligible students are entitled for loans up to a capped amount of $19,290 for this course. Students will be required to contribute the gap should the tuition fee exceed the loan cap. Students who are eligible for Subsidised Training can use a VET Student Loan to cover the remainder of their fees.

Industry placements

Students are required to complete 12 weeks of work placement. This is undertaken of 2 blocks of 2 weeks and 2 blocks of 4 weeks. Each placement consists of full time shift work hours and you will have to travel to your work placement location.

Admission Criteria

Before you begin your course application, make sure you meet the requirements listed below.

  • Be 18 years of age or turning 18 prior to the first clinical placement in the course
  • National criminal history check and Department of Human Services (DHS), screening for Aged Care, vulnerable groups and working with children check and NDIS worker check
  • Physical ability to demonstrate manual handling skills applicable as a compulsory component of the course and the clinical care workplace
  • Applicants are required to sit a Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment as part of application process. An interview will also be required at ANMEC. Selection for enrolment is a competitive process and completion of the LLN assessment or application for course does not guarantee enrolment offer.
  • Applicants will need to satisfy the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English language entry requirement prior to acceptance into this course.
  • Vaccination requirements as required by clinical placement providers
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander & culturally and linguistically diverse background applicants are encouraged to apply
  • Inherent requirements for nursing qualifications describe a range of cognitive, behavioural, and physical capabilities which are required for the delivery of safe care nursing
